We are all athletes — or at least, we all have an athlete inside us.  Most of us have been actual athletes at some point in our lives – whether that was playing official youth soccer or pick-up football with the neighbors.  Maybe you were a swimmer, tennis player, baseball player, wrestler, or gymnast in your heyday. You were an athlete — or at a minimum, you were active. Maybe you feel that you’ve lost all of that.  Life gets busy. Food is good. Exercise is sometimes hard — time consuming — or just too boring to be motivating. The older we get, the more distant our athletic self seems – and the more impossible it feels to get it back.  But it’s still there, and it’s still reachable.  

The term “athlete” is too often misrepresented as someone who is a professional or elite in a sport.  But that’s much too strict of a definition. Merriam-Webster defines it as “a person who is trained or skilled in exercises, sports, or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina.”  The top Urban Dictionary definition is even more broad “an individual who participates in sports.  Characterized by dedication, focus, intelligence, and work ethic.”  

Nike goes a bit too far.  According to their mission, “If you have a body, you are an athlete.”  I’d edit it slightly to say, “if you have a body, you are meant to be an athlete” or “.. you can be an athlete.”  There are too many (with a body) who don’t feel athletic. There was a time in my life that I didn’t feel it. CrossFit Peachtree changed that for me, and it can do the same for you.

First, CrossFit workouts are so much more engaging than others.  You have a coach pushing you at every workout, and the workouts are exhilarating.  They are so varied that you’ll rarely do the same workout twice (unless it’s a special occasion or you are trying to assess improvement).  They are hard, and you will be pushed & challenged, but one of the beauties of CrossFit is its universal scalability. Professional athletes and complete beginners can participate in the same CrossFit class by just scaling load and intensity.  You will want to work out more — and the workouts will deliver a broad, general, and inclusive fitness.

Second, the CrossFit Peachtree community will keep you motivated and connect you to others who are on the same journey to feel and look athletic and improve their overall health.  Trying to work out alone or even with a few partners is not the same as having a room full of people — pushing you, cheering for you, and hopeful for you. The sense of camaraderie, competition, and fun in our community results in a workout intensity that’s difficult to match.  As important – this community will make you feel like you are part of something bigger than a workout or even your own fitness/athletic goals.
