WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO BEFORE YOU DIE

Ray and I watch this show on MTV, so when I saw this article from Nerd Fitness, I thought it would be a good post. Have you ever thought about it? What do you want to do before you die? It sounds cliche, but life is short and goes by quicker every year. How many of you say, “I wish I could do that…” or, “I really want to do that someday…” Why not today? There is never a good time, never enough money, work or day to day life will always get in the way, but you have to make time to fulfill those dreams, who wants to wake up one day, full of regrets or unfulfilled wishes? Dream big.

I just bawled my eyes out while watching MTV.

Now, before you judge me (boo pre-judgement), please hear me out. I just finished watching the latest episode of The Buried Life, a show that has quickly become my favorite 30 minutes of television every week. What the heck is The Buried Life, you ask?

Relying on goodwill, guts and gumption Duncan, Ben, Dave and Jonnie travel the globe in a purple transit bus to complete a list of ‘100 things to do before you die’. For every item they complete on their list, they help a stranger achieve one of their dreams. Everywhere they go they ask the question: What do you want to do before you die?

I’ve only seen two episodes of the show and I’m already hooked. I’m absolutely in love with the premise and the show itself is highly entertaining and motivational. Sure, the crazy things on their list make for some excellent television – but the best part of the show is clearly their weekly attempt to help a complete stranger cross something off their own list. On the episode that had me crying, the guys raised enough money to fly a young girl out to Colorado to visit her mom’s grave for the first time. It was unbelievable.

When you break it to the simplest terms, this is what life is all about – making memories, finding a way to be happy, taking chances, and helping others do the same.

I feel like I have an opportunity to do some pretty awesome things in my life, and Nerd Fitness is allowing me to help others cross things off of their own lists. Whether it’s losing 100 pounds, running a marathon, or sticking around long enough to watch your kids graduate college, I want to help you with your list. I’ve seen what getting in shape can do for somebody’s self-confidence and drive – If I can help you turn things around in your own life, you’ll hopefully inspire others to do the same.

I realize it’s really uncool to watch MTV these days, but this show is worth a watch – it’s a half-hour reminder to have some fun, do things you love, and help other people along the way. Whether they’re trying to party at the Playboy Mansion, make a toast at a stranger’s wedding, or compete in a Krump contest in L.A., the Buried Life are living proof that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

If you want to check out the show, you can watch full episodes over on MTV.com.

Now, while I’m helping other people level up their lives, I’d like to eventually cross a few things off my own list (which I just started making myself). Here are six things I’d like to do cross off my list:

Some of those things seem relatively easy given enough time and money, others not so much (Ninja Warrior, saving somebody’s life), but I honestly feel like nothing on this list is off the table. That’s why it’s on my list!

I want to hear five things from your list in the comments – nothing is considered too easy or too hard. Make sure you put down your correct email address (it will remain private) when posting a comment, so I can reach out to you if there’s anything I can do to help you cross something off your list.

Let’s have some fun, and let’s help each other.

About to go to bed,but just wanted to shout out to my 7pm crew last night. You guys were so inspiring. I asked for all you had those last 2 mins and you gave it. I asked for you to dig deep inside yourselves to push through the pain and you all gave more than 100%. Represented what crossfit is all about. Also congrats to Ken on getting his first double under during our skill drill! I feel like a proud momma! aaaw. Ok goodnight.

Starting to get excited about the competition this weekend, a little nervous about puking in front of 500 people, but definitely going to love watching our teams and Khaki, Becca, JT, and Taylor represent in the individuals comp.

  11. Lis on February 25th, 2010 10:39 am

Thanks Lisa- glad we could make you proud as we were all about to die in those last two minutes. You’re a helluva cheerleader.

Yesterday Jill and I think Liz each said you had a spare ticket for the weekend…let me know if those are still available as I’m bringing a friend w me to watch on Sat. If not, I’ll go ahead and buy a ticket and use my free one for my friend. Let me know…

  12. Jill on February 25th, 2010 10:52 am

I got a free ticket Lis. It’s all yours!

    Mike D:

Eat a banana before the competition…I hear it’s the only thing that tastes the same on the way down as it does on the way up.

  20. Jenny S on February 25th, 2010 11:58 am

Never mind, just read the rules and there is no way she can carry me at this point.

  21. James on February 25th, 2010 12:00 pm

Looks like there are some serious hosses signed up for this event! I think it would have been interesting to know the competitors’ 5k times since we were also supposed to submit that info.

Good luck to all competing. GTL and TSH are going to be great to watch!

  22. Jenn McWoww on February 25th, 2010 12:09 pm

All of you all are going to kick some booty this weekend! Can’t wait to watch you all make CFPT proud!

  23. Jenn McWoww on February 25th, 2010 12:11 pm

“little nervous about puking in front of 500 people”

Mike.. you should talk to some of the skanks… they have a lot of experience in this department and should be able to put your mind at ease :)

  24. Jenny S on February 25th, 2010 12:14 pm

Mikey, at least you won’t need someone to hold your hair back.

  25. Jenny T on February 25th, 2010 12:16 pm

Good luck to everyone this weekend!! Have fun and do work. Oh and if the judge was counting out loud and they stop for a minute, they aren’t counting to themselves – you aren’t getting credit for reps! :D Trust them, they know the difference, they aren’t cheating you!

I wish I could be out there to cheer you guys on, but Flip Cup Domination in freezing cold Ohio is calling my name. Can’t wait to follow the updates!! Beat bitches asses!

  26. Mike D, and I'm going platinum on February 25th, 2010 12:24 pm

Brad and Jenny, I will bet your kid’s first word is going to be “Time!” and their first full sentence will be “Burpees again??”

  27. J Pow on February 25th, 2010 12:25 pm

Um – in advance I apologize to whomever has to carry me 200m.

  28. Jordan on February 25th, 2010 12:32 pm

B – Yep, I’ll be there. Right after I sleep for 14 hours straight when I get home Friday afternoon…

  29. b on February 25th, 2010 12:33 pm

Haha…Jenny S…everything is scalable. We’ll just save the partner carries for when Baby S starts doing CF Kids :)

  30. b on February 25th, 2010 12:34 pm

Jenny T just asked me a great question…we will be partnering people up on the Saturday of the event, so you do not need to sign up with a partner, just a donation :) !

James T – thank you for your donation…that was fast :D

  31. James on February 25th, 2010 12:49 pm

    PayPal – EZ game

  32. AK on February 25th, 2010 1:17 pm

  33. AK on February 25th, 2010 1:18 pm

    Happy Birthday Lauren!

  34. AK on February 25th, 2010 1:19 pm

I’m sure not too many know who you are because you work all the time but some of us remember you.

  35. b on February 25th, 2010 1:37 pm

For those of you going to the Sectionals this weekend to spectate…you may want to bring a folding chair or blankie or something along those lines. I’m not sure what the situation is out there for chilling, but it would be nice to have a big CFPT zone.

  36. Katie aka Mighty Meaty on February 25th, 2010 1:39 pm

B – nice use of the word “situation”!!! :-)

  37. YZ on February 25th, 2010 1:41 pm

Good luck for the games this weekend. Sorry I won’t be able to make it there but like Daniel AKA NOT AK Dan I’ll be doing 100 burpees in spirit. :-)

  38. b on February 25th, 2010 1:45 pm

Doing anything fun for your birthday YZ :) ?

  39. Faron (fred) on February 25th, 2010 1:46 pm

B – Thanks for remembering! No nothing elaborate. I’m getting old. :?

  42. Mike D, and I'm going platinum on February 25th, 2010 2:00 pm

There would just be a lot going on that I wouldn’t want going on.

There will be a safe word for every couple, AK. If yours is “couture” or “lifestyle” I would go ahead and call it a day….

  43. YZ on February 25th, 2010 2:01 pm

Mike D – I second that. The year will be fantastic after I witness Duke take home the championship. Do I smell the 100 burpess you owe me since GT lost that game?

  49. Daniel AKA NOT AK Dan on February 25th, 2010 2:15 pm

So I just got off the phone with a CF affiliate here in NY to see what their drop in rates were since I’ll be here until tuesday. He told me don’t worry about it and come on in! Crossfit community rocks! Try getting that at a globo gym!

  50. Mike D, and I'm going platinum on February 25th, 2010 2:16 pm

Taylor, is that Kenny G., the saxophone player?? You will crush him like a grape…

    YZ, you owe me first..

Ryno, good to hear from you…

  51. YZ on February 25th, 2010 2:22 pm

Mike D – How’s about 10 burpess for every point each team lost to the other? I think you’ll owe me 190 and I’ll owe you 40.

  52. Lindsey on February 25th, 2010 2:23 pm

Anyone want to carpool/caravan this weekend? I would like to get up there early to see our indie rockers kick some ass! Shannon, if you’re out there and want to ride dirty, check your facebook woman!

  53. Jenn Mc on February 25th, 2010 2:36 pm

“Shannon, if you’re out there and want to ride dirty, check your facebook woman!”

If you are going to ride Dirty… shouldn’t you atleast ask me first or maybe buy me dinner?

  54. Jenn Mc on February 25th, 2010 2:36 pm

(Sorry Lindsey… you probably don’t know that my nickname is McDirty or Dirty… after my last post… you probably figured it out)

  55. Lindsey on February 25th, 2010 2:44 pm

Oh my manners! How inconsiderate of me? I hear the pony has quite the lunch buffet. Little tit for tat? Sound good?

  56. Jenn Mc on February 25th, 2010 2:50 pm

you had me at pony Lindsey!! :)

  57. Lindsey on February 25th, 2010 3:02 pm

Phew glad I could pole dance my way out of that one…. I’m thinking something with a cream sauce. mmmm

  58. James on February 25th, 2010 3:07 pm

Taylor, too bad we won’t be in the same heat. Looks like I’ll likely be chasing Conor Dockry or Greg Stack up the rock. Or maybe the 17 year old with the 6:00 Helen 8O

  59. Eric Maney on February 25th, 2010 3:11 pm

    Daniel AKA NOT AK Dan

Same experience for me with affiliates…I will be in Richmond Virgina for three days next week, and then San Diego 2 weeks after that for 5 days. Both places an affilate said bring it. They have mad respect for crossfit and the fact that people dont want to break in their training just because they are out of town.

  60. Liz on February 25th, 2010 3:13 pm

So – question…I have been MIA and instead of re-reading all the blogs I have a few questions regarding this weekend. Ranked in order of importance.

1.) Can I bring in my own beer?! Or do I need to just bring in all the dollar bills I make in on Friday night for the cash bar? I feel like this would be the second best way to represent CFPT.

2.) Hypothetically speaking, if I was to be dog sitting this weekend, can I bring him with me?!

3.) What’s the whole story about the free ticket shananegans?! I feel like I missed the memo about buy 1 get one.

4.) Where the hell in stone mountain are we going?! I can see myself getting lost. And when I’m lost and have beer in the car, I drink and end up getting hammered before I get there.

I think that’s all for now.

  61. b on February 25th, 2010 3:22 pm

    1. You can only bring your own beer if I can partake with you (after the Team WOD, of course). Although I may or may not have been talking about bringing my own bottle to keep myself warm after the workout.

    2. If it is a certain dog, with a last name that starts with “T”…we may need to get a picture with Mariah holding him :P …just sayin’

    3. Memo was just officially released, check out the Rumble weby.

    4. And because I want you to share your booze with me, I mean, I only have your safety in mind, here is a link to the map: http://georgiacrossfitsectionals.squarespace.com/blog/2010/2/23/stone-mountain-the-lay-of-the-land.html

  62. Mike D, and I'm going platinum on February 25th, 2010 3:35 pm

Where the hell in stone mountain are we going?!

Lis, after you take the “Stone Mountain” exit off of 285, you may notice an 1,100 foot high block of granite off to your right…head towards the “Stone Mountain Park Entrance” , go in the main entrance, and follow the signs for the sports pavilion.

I can be at the gym around 9:30 if anyone wants to carpool out there on Saturday AM, returning to the gym or Taco Mac or The Treehouse around 3pm.

  63. James on February 25th, 2010 3:38 pm

I just started a list today because of the post. I would consider these things necessary but not sufficient for having no regrets.

    Travel to all continents
    Have children

Hopefully I can start adding to it all the time as I think of stuff.

  64. James on February 25th, 2010 3:47 pm

I guess we should still get there before 8:15 even if we’re already registered? Man, that’s going to be an early wake-up

  65. Jenn Mc on February 25th, 2010 3:59 pm

James.. in honor of your post… here are some of my “to do before I die at CFPT”:

Get my nickname at CFPT changed to CFPT Barbie 2

Have Bali tell me that my body fat is too low

Be able to block out Jenny T’s burps from my memory

Do a muscle up, oly lifts like Becca, L Pullup, and a successful HSPU

Not make an arse out of myself at a social or trainer outing

  66. Katie aka Mighty Meaty on February 25th, 2010 4:03 pm

In honor of James and Jenn McWow, here are some of mine:
    1. Run a full marathon
    2. Complete an Ironman Race
    3. Century bike ride

    Those are just a few… :-)

  67. Lis on February 25th, 2010 4:14 pm

Jill- how do I get the ticket from you? Can you bring it to the gym tonight or tomorrow?

Liz- I still need one more ticket for my friend. Did you figure out how to get the free one? If so,I’ll buy it from you. Just let me know.

    Thanks!

  68. Lindsey on February 25th, 2010 4:24 pm

    Oooo I want to play:

    1. Travel EVERYWHERE, leave no stone unturned.
    2. Learn to play the guitar

    4. See lava in real life
    5. Find a way to not turn as red as a that lava when I get nervous.
    6. Do a head spin….. I have too many to choose from and my job is boring. I daydream ALOT

  69. Mike D, and I'm going platinum on February 25th, 2010 4:59 pm

Lindsey, is killing the blog on your list?? Cross that one off….

  70. Lisa Bizoooond aka Mighty Mouse on February 25th, 2010 6:48 pm

Lis-I do still have the extra ticket on my pass! Email me your friends name and info…I’m guessing phone number, address, email address….not sure what all it’s gonna ask for and I will forward you the ticket info once i get an email confirmation.
my emails zazenchic@gmail.com (Mike D, don’t even ask! I’ve had it for a long ass time and I’m too lazy to change it to a more professional one)
